A truly sustainable project! The transformation of a former office building into an innovative hospitality concept. On Westblaak in Rotterdam, you’ll soon be able to stay in one of the 165 hotel rooms or 44 sleep pods at The Usual hotel.
The Usual
The concept behind The Usual revolves around sustainability and connection. They believe it’s possible to travel and stay more consciously—without sacrificing style or enjoyment. Travelers can worry less about their footprint, as the hotel has thoughtfully considered everything from the biggest decisions to the smallest details, with a focus on aesthetics, quality, and longevity, while working with local suppliers. The Usual continuously strives to make a positive impact for both traveling guests and the local community. Doing good is becoming the new normal.
“Our goal is to prove that it’s possible to travel in a more sustainable way without compromising on comfort and convenience. In Rotterdam, BOBgroep is helping us make that vision a reality,” says Joachim de Looij (CEO). “At The Usual, we take care of our guests, so that their experience can be all about enjoyment and delight.”
Subsidies for Sustainability
We are especially proud when we can help sustainable initiatives like this one achieve their goals through dedicated subsidy programs. That’s why we’re delighted that The Usual qualifies for a BREEAM-Excellent certification and that both the Environmental Investment Allowance (MIA) and the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) applications have been approved.
Hjalmar, project manager at Van Draeckeburgh, says:
We’re proud to contribute to the sustainability of the Netherlands. Projects like this are especially meaningful to us because their commitment to sustainability continues even after the building is completed.
