The former office building on Bleijenburg in The Hague has been given a new identity as the Townhouse Design Hotel. This large-scale transformation, carried out by real estate developer FRESCH Real Estate, involved a complete demolition of the old structure and the construction of a stylish hotel with 88 rooms. The Townhouse Design Hotel combines modern architecture with sustainable solutions, contributing to the renewal and appeal of the surrounding area.
Architecture and style of the Townhouse concept
The design of the new Townhouse Design Hotel, developed by Boparai Associates Architects, reflects a unique blend of urban elegance and accessible style. With richly detailed brick architecture and expansive glass façades, the building conveys transparency and warmth, aligning with the townhouse concept. The five-story hotel stands approximately 18 meters tall and features an inviting entrance and a restaurant on the ground floor, where guests can meet in a relaxed, modern atmosphere.
Sustainability Initiatives
Sustainability was a central focus in the design and construction of the Townhouse Design Hotel. Through smart investments in energy-efficient systems and technologies, the project was awarded multiple Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) approvals. These included systems such as an air handling unit with heat recovery, an air distribution system, and a VRF system with an air-to-water heat pump.
Pim Schelling, Project Manager at Van Draeckeburgh, says:
“For the Bleijenburg project, I once again enjoyed a great collaboration with developer FRESCH Real Estate, and it’s wonderful to see that high sustainability standards have been achieved. Of course, I’m looking forward to booking a stay at the Townhouse Hotel soon! With the completion of this project, The Hague not only contributes to the growing demand for sustainable hotel facilities but also sets an inspiring example of renewal and sustainability within the historic city center. “
