In the heart of Zwolle, the former mail sorting center is undergoing an impressive transformation. The building was in need of large-scale renovation and sustainability upgrades. The goal: the realization of ‘The City Post’—the most sustainable, high-end, multi-tenant building in the region.

Sustainable ambitions

The transition toward a future-proof and sustainable The City Post is taking place in phases. From a circular perspective, the building’s existing structure has been reused. In line with the energy transition, sustainable energy sources have been integrated, including an aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system and solar energy.

The City Post has not only achieved a BREEAM certification but also secured Green Financing. We had the opportunity to handle this application. The renovation improves the building’s energy label by more than six steps, which qualifies it for green financing.

The City Post Zwolle now proudly houses tenants such as ABN AMRO, BDO, Essent, and Finanxe.

What is Green Financing?

The government encourages projects with a positive environmental impact by making the financing of ‘green projects’ more attractive. Through a tax benefit for green savers and investors, a green bank can offer a loan to an investor at a reduced interest rate. The exact interest rate and discount depend on the green bank in question. Applications can be submitted for utility buildings, industrial projects, and residential properties.
