Monument “de Schuurkerk” Muziekhaven

We are once again highlighting a beautiful monument: the Old Catholic hidden church in Zaandam. The Schuurkerk was built in 1695. This wooden clandestine church closely resembled a typical Zaan region barn.

In a time when many church buildings are closing and it is difficult to find a new purpose for them, the dream of the new owners of the Schuurkerk is becoming a reality. The Schuurkerk is now called MuziekHaven: a chamber music center, a place where musicians can retreat to fully dedicate themselves to their music. The centuries-old church has beautiful acoustics and is perfectly suited for chamber music concerts, rehearsals, masterclasses, and CD recordings.

Project manager Marloes says:

“This project truly makes my musician’s heart beat faster. The location is perfect for it, as the wooden barrel vault contributes to a beautiful acoustic.”

Restoration grant

To help preserve the condition of this monument, we were allowed to apply for a restoration grant from the Province of North Holland. With this financial support, the foundation of the monument can now be restored. We’re delighted that the grant was approved! The official decision was even presented in a festive ceremony by the Province of North Holland, which we had the honor of attending on behalf of the client.

Our client says:

“The maximum restoration grant was applied for and received—thank you for the great collaboration, Van Draeckeburgh – Marloes!”
