The Oudenbosch monastery shines after recent improvements

The monastery building at Jezuïetenplein 33 in Oudenbosch was designed in 1890 by architect Nicolaas Molenaar, one of the most important students of Pierre Cuypers, the famous architect of the Rijksmuseum and Amsterdam Central Station, among other things. The building originally served as a philosophy school for the Jesuits, later as a monastery for the Fathers of the Holy Family and then as a fraternity house for the Brothers of Saint Louis. Since 2013, Tivoli Oudenbosch has been located here in its current form. This includes a brasserie, a restaurant and an event location. Tivoli Oudenbosch offers various unique spaces, each with its own atmosphere, appearance and size, such as the Chapel of Saint Louis and the Bruno Ernst Library. In addition, the building houses a public observatory in the observatory, which has been completely restored to its original state. This observatory is the oldest public observatory in the Netherlands.

Preservation of monumental value

Thanks to the SIM subsidy (Subsidy for the Preservation of Monuments), the Oudenbosch monastery has undergone a number of improvements. For example, the exterior paintwork and woodwork have been given a new coat of paint with the aim of preserving the monumental value of the national monument and maintaining the neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance features of this beautiful building. In recent years, various maintenance activities have already been carried out and these recent improvements contribute further to the long-term preservation of the building and ensure that it retains its historical appearance.

The SIM subsidy offers owners of national monuments financial support for necessary regular maintenance, such as painting, window frame maintenance and roof repair. The scheme covers a period of six years.
