Monument Conservation Subsidy (SIM)

Subsidy for Planned / Regular Maintenance of National Monuments.

The subsidy is a contribution towards the costs of regular maintenance for your national monument. If your national monument was originally or is currently primarily designated for residential use, you cannot apply for subsidy under this scheme. However, local governments such as municipalities and provinces, as well as professional monument organizations, can apply for subsidy for their residential properties.

How much subsidy can you receive?

Based on a 6-year maintenance plan, up to 60% of the regular maintenance costs can be subsidized. If you use the property for business purposes, a subsidy rate of 40% applies.
For conducting a sustainability study, a fixed allowance of €4,000 can be requested.
Church service residences in religious use, such as vicarages and sexton’s houses, are now also eligible for subsidies.

Conditions:

The subsidy is provided for a maintenance period of 6 years.
The work may commence in the year following the subsidy award.
Only national monuments with an original function other than residential are eligible for the subsidy.
Separate subsidies for restoration plans are available from the provinces. There is an insurance policy available based on the reconstruction value.
The eligible costs amount to a maximum of 3.0% of the reconstruction value.
A structural inspection must be conducted before the application. This inspection should map out all structural elements.
