To achieve climate goals, the government aims for gas-free buildings, and the SAH scheme encourages landlords to contribute. Landlords who disconnect their rental homes from the gas network may be eligible for the Natural Gas-Free Rental Homes Subsidy Scheme.
Â
The subsidy is granted for rental homes both below and above the rent liberalization threshold and amounts to a maximum of €5,000 per rental home fully disconnected from the gas network. Applications are assessed in order of submission—first come, first served.
Â
The benefits and subsidy amount
The subsidy is a maximum of €5,000 per disconnected rental home. This amount is divided into two types of eligible costs:
Up to 40% of eligible costs, with a maximum of €1,200 for construction works, such as: – Disconnecting the gas connection and removing the gas meter. – Adjusting or replacing the space heating system and provisions for cooking and hot tap water. – Other construction modifications necessary to make the rental home gas-free or to connect the home to the heat network.
Up to 30% of the costs charged by the heat company for connection to a heat network, up to a maximum of €3,800 per home.
Â
Important conditions
To be eligible for SAH, at least the following conditions must be met:
The homes are existing rental homes that have been rented for at least three months in the last two years.
The home must be completely gas-free after completion of the work.
The application is submitted before starting the activities.
