The province of Utrecht has a large number of national monuments that must be preserved for future generations. To support owners, the Heritage Pearls Fund (Parelfonds) was established in 2007. This fund focuses on the restoration of national monuments that do not have a residential function, such as historic estates, churches, and industrial heritage.

Subsidies can be applied for restoration work on national monuments without a residential function. This includes, among others:
Restoration of historic estates
Repair of churches and religious heritage
Preservation and restoration of industrial heritage

The benefits and subsidy amount
Between 40% and 60% of the eligible restoration costs.

Important conditions
The application must meet at least the following mandatory subsidy criteria:
Moderate or poor maintenance condition based on an independent inspection report (to be provided by the owner);
The scheme applies only to national monuments without a residential function;
Urgent restoration need;
High cultural-historical value;
Demonstrable certainty of use or repurposing;
Public accessibility, meaning open at least 10 times per year to as wide a public as possible;
Co-financing up to 100% of the eligible costs.
